Coalcliff SLSC Rod Stevens Memorial Board Paddle 2016-2017 season - wrap-up
The Rod Stevens Memorial Board Paddle was held today, Feb 26 2017 under some very trying conditions. The swell wasn’t huge but the sets were unforgiving and the chop relentless. Leo Stevens was the first to break through the shore dump followed by 14 more very determined competitors, some losing their boards multiple times in the break. No one gave up.
Leo was the first to make it back in a blistering 14 minutes, followed very closely in a time of 14:25 by Matthew Logan. Third place was taken out by new Bronze Medallion holder Andrew Massey with a time of 17:01.
Of the 15 competitors, 4 were juniors, U13(F) Tianna Massey, U14(M) Coby McDougall, U15(F) Amy Logan and U15(M) Aidan Frederiksen. Great effort all of you.
Only one more Coalcliff SLSC Triple Crown event to go, the Black Iron Person, in two weeks’ time, on Sunday 12 March 2017. To get a place on the Triple Crown leaderboard competitors must complete at least 3 of the 4 Triple Crown events i.e. The Bridge to Boatshed Run, The Beach to Bombi Swim, the Rod Stevens Memorial Board Paddle and the Black Ironperson.
Thanks to our very dedicated team of events coordinators, water safety crew, patrol members, helpers and cheer squad. Well done everyone.
